The new owners of this 1922 Colonial Revival home, located in one of St. Louis’s most sought-after neighborhoods, wanted to expand the house to better support their multi-generational family and evolving lifestyle.

The project began with the removal of an old addition that was poorly constructed and was very different from the style of the existing home.  We created a thoughtfully scaled expansion that includes a generous eat-in kitchen and a new primary bedroom suite. The existing enclosed sun porch and adjacent bedroom/bathroom suite was reconfigured into a primary bathroom and en-suite for the guest bedroom.  Below, the basement space was captured to create a dedicated gaming room with direct access to the backyard. 

The project presented several technical and structural challenges.  Highly plastic soils required the installation of new push piers to stabilize the existing sunroom before the underpinning for the new lower basement could take place, thus ensures long-term integrity of the structure.
